During 2018, there did not appear to be any intensified focus on culture and conduct by Spanish regulators, including the Bank of Spain.
In December, Bank of Spain Governor Pablo Hernandez de Cos, speaking at an industry conference, summarized challenges facing the Spanish banking sector.1 He identified one challenge as “reputation and conduct.” After noting that the Bank of Spain had focused on this issue a few years ago and that banks had reacted, he commented that there was “more work to be done.”
