As discussed in earlier issues of this annual report, in 2019 the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP-FI) published its “Principles for Responsible Banking,” listing Governance & Culture as one such.
Aiming to align the business strategies of banks with societys’ goals, to provide a framework for a sustainable banking system, and to demonstrate how this contributes positively to society,1 the Principles were launched with the participation of 130 banks from 49 countries,2 collectively representing $47 trillion in assets. Signatories, now numbering some 220, agree to complete a self-assessment and to report to the UN annually.
