Q: You were among the first to highlight culture and governance in the context of last spring’s banking sector “turmoil,” as we’ve taken to calling it. What informed your views in this regard?
A: The spring 2023 turmoil confirmed a strongly held belief of mine, that the post-crisis regulatory reforms have been fundamental in strengthening the banking sector, but are not enough in the absence of strong internal governance and healthy risk culture within the firms.
