In a recent opinion piece in the Financial Times, Naomi Mercer, Senior Vice-President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at the American Bankers Association (ABA), highlights her organization's efforts to promote DEI within the banking industry. "Not only is it the right thing to do, it's good for business," she writes.
Organizations thrive when they have a culture in which all employees feel welcome and respected, regardless of their background. ABA, the largest banking trade association in the US, supports initiatives like unconscious bias training, sponsorship programs, and inclusive leadership practices to establish such a culture. They also collaborate with bankers leading DEI efforts, form advisory groups, and partner with minority depository institutions to expand access to banking and boost economic opportunities for under-represented communities.
