Observations

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has demanded that the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) make "foundational changes" to its governance, culture, and risk management after a December 2024 outage in its settlement system.

In its recently released "2025 Assessment of the ASX Clearing and Settlement (CS) Facilities," the RBA found that ASX has "considerable work" to do to meet the expectations of an operator of critical market infrastructure. The RBA said that ASX must also accelerate reforms to its operational and financial risk management, while meeting key milestones in its technology projects.
