ICYMI: In a speech delivered last month, Patrick Montagner, a Member of the Supervisory Board at the European Central Bank (ECB), addressed the challenge of simplifying banking supervision in a complex, evolving financial landscape.
Montagner acknowledged that regulation is often criticized as overly complex or burdensome, but argued that this complexity reflects the increasing sophistication of the banking system itself. Supervisors, he noted, must continually adapt to emerging risks, technological innovation, and global economic shifts. “[C]hange is intrinsic to our supervisory activity,” he emphasized.
