Compendium

The financial crisis represented a turning point in the way citizens and markets view institutions. The public’s trust in governments, the media, business in general and banks in particular collapsed ten years ago, and is yet to fully recover that lost ground. Trust — or the lack of it — has become one of the defining social, political and economic features of our time.

When it comes to business, trust matters first because companies are at the bedrock of our communities and our economies, and none more so than banks and financial services. But trust in business also matters because, more and more, a company’s reputation is a major part of its share price and a key source of competitive advantage.
