Observations

Between April and September 2021, over 24 million American employees left their jobs — an all-time record. Business leaders are left struggling to make sense of the factors driving this continuing trend. Notably, companies with a reputation for a healthy culture experienced lower-than-average turnover.

Recent research finds that company culture is a much more reliable predictor of industry-adjusted attrition than other factors, including compensation. Researchers find, for instance, that a "toxic corporate culture” is more than 10 times more powerful than compensation in predicting a company’s attrition rate.
