After surveying 36,000 respondents in some 30 countries, the recently released 2022 update to Edelman's annual "Trust Barometer” reports that almost 66% of people are inclined towards distrust of key institutions. For instance, scientists and the scientific community are found to be the most trusted group, while governments and government leaders rank last.
“Government failure has created an over-reliance on business to fill the void, a job that private enterprise was not designed to deliver,” says CEO Richard Edelman.“My employer” is now the most trusted of any institution, with 77% of respondents reporting that they look to their own employers and company CEOs to drive needed social change around critical issues of the day, such as climate change, economic inequality, workforce re-skilling, and racial injustice.
