The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority ("Finma") has appointed Stefan Walter, currently the Director General of Horizontal Line Supervision at the European Central Bank (ECB), as its new chief executive.
Finma has faced substantial scrutiny for its oversight of Credit Suisse following the bank's near collapse and emergency rescue in Spring 2023. Urban Angehrn, Finma's former CEO who served for less than two years, stepped down in September. Angehrn cited health consequences due to the "high and permanent stress level" of the job.
