Last month, ANZ fired and suspended traders amid allegations of misconduct. While the bank gave few details regarding the disciplinary actions, they followed investigations into the behavior and culture in its markets division.

ANZ has enlisted external counsel to investigate claims of overstated bond dealings. The bank is also under scrutiny for potential irregularities in a government bond sale that took place in 2023. "My immediate priority is to ensure the investigations are completed in a timely manner, that action is taken against any individuals who have not met the required standards and that the necessary steps are taken to ensure these conduct failures do not re-occur," Elliott said in the statement.
