Shareholder sentiment is no longer the sole driver of business value. Business leaders are beginning to realize the power of trust, including its impact on economic value and growth in the digital age. Trust pays off in multiple ways, and it is becoming increasingly important to a company's success in recruiting talent; improving its net promoter score; achieving environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals; and more.

According to the BCG Trust Index, the 100 most trusted companies generated 2.5 times as much value as comparable businesses at year-end 2021. They also had 47% higher P/E multiples. A clear link between trust and corporate value implies that trust should be seen as a corporate asset to which management should attend.
