Observations

During a hearing held by the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations last week, Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun faced criticism for the company's safety failures and its allegedly inadequate protection of whistleblowers.

The Subcommittee launched an inquiry into Boeing after a door panel blowout on an Alaska Airlines jet in January, which followed two deadly 737 Max crashes in 2018 and 2019. "This hearing is a moment of reckoning," said Senator Richard Blumenthal said. "It's about a company, once an iconic company . . . that somehow lost its way." Senator Maggie Hassan accused Boeing of having "fostered a culture that censors people who try to speak up."
