Amy Edmondson, Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management at Harvard Business School, and an Advisor to us at Starling, recently appeared on the New Human Movement webcast series, hosted by Gary Hamel and Michele Zanini, and focused on reimagining work, management, and capitalism. In the episode, Amy discussed the origins of psychological safety, its importance, and how to deal with an "epidemic of silence."

Edmondson says, in part: "If you have people coming to work who believe their voice doesn't matter, you are at risk for not creating new value, but also you're at risk for errors, poor customer service, and predictable failures that your employees knew were coming, but you didn't.” As regulators and supervisors worldwide are beginning to inquire into the cultures of firms, and employees’ willingness to ’speak-up’ when they witness wrongful acts, Amy’s advice here provides essential learnings.
