The UK Financial Reporting Council (FRC) has asked Big Four audit firms to disclose the measures they are taking against the use of generative AI to cheat on exams, as reported by the Telegraph.
The FRC has reportedly engaged in discussions with the UK's largest auditors and other professional accountancy organizations to ensure that robust mechanisms are in place to identify, monitor, and address any cheating incidents. The heightened scrutiny follows in the wake of several high-profile incidents of exam cheating, culminating in the record $25 million fine levied upon KPMG Netherlands by the US Public Company Accounting Oversight Board for such misconduct last month.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has said that it collaborates with regulators proactively to monitor exam malpractice risks, ensuring strict supervision during exams. However, the ICAEW is also exploring how it can use AI to improve the exam-taking experience. "Our exams are always moving towards replicating the skills required in the current and future professional accountancy environment," an ICAEW spokesman told the Telegraph.
