As reported by The Washington Post, the US Air Force has disciplined 15 members of the Air National Guard after an internal investigation uncovered that a "lack of supervision" and a "culture of complacency" had enabled an individual to leak hundreds of classified documents over the online chat platform, Discord. In a report delivered to the US Congress, the Air Force blamed the leaker's superiors for failing both to restrict access to classified material and to report the misconduct after discovering several incidents of "questionable" activity.
A summary of the investigation finds that, "three individuals in the unit who understood their duty to report specific information regarding [the Guard member’s] intelligence-seeking and insider threat indicators to security officials, intentionally failed to do so.” It concludes that this failure to report was driven by fear that security officials would "overreact."
