Since her appointment in early 2022, Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) Chair Erica Williams has faced the challenging tasks of repairing a fractured organizational culture, bolstering enforcement efforts, and modernizing auditing regulations.
In 2021, PCAOB Chair William Duhnke was dismissed, and most of the Board was replaced, by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) following reports of a culture of fear and distrust. The Board also suffered from several conduct scandals before this, including leaks of confidential inspection data.
