Brian Brooks served as the acting U.S. Comptroller of the Currency for the OCC from 2020 to 2021. He joined the OCC earlier in 2020 as chief operating officer and deputy comptroller. The OCC serves to regulate and supervise all national banks and thrift institutions as well as the federally licensed branches of foreign banks in the United States.
Prior to his appointment to the OCC, Brooks was the chief legal officer at crypto exchange Coinbase where he was responsible for legal affairs, compliance, government relations and global investigations.
Brooks came to Coinbase from Fannie Mae where he held a variety of leadership roles from 2014 to 2018, most recently as General Counsel. He served on the Boards of the FDIC and Fannie Mae.
Brooks is currently the CEO of the Bitfury Group, one of the largest and longest-operating designers of mining ASICs and operators of mining data centers.
