Compendium
The future is inherently uncertain and risky; it can bring desirable opportunities and destabilizing threats. How can organizations be resilient and adaptive when confronting the uncertainties of tomorrow? All living systems attempt to model and predict the future.1 Any living organism lives (and dies) in an environment, increasing its chances of living by modeling the future state of that environment. Accordingly, individuals spend much time imagining possible futures, including feared and desired scenarios.2 Equally, organizations create plans, strategies, and vision statements to increase their chances of seizing opportunities and avoiding disruptions.
