The European Council and Parliament have reached a provisional agreement on the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act, marking a historic milestone as the first comprehensive set of rules for AI globally. The draft legislation aims to ensure the safety of AI systems in the European market, uphold fundamental rights, and stimulate innovation in the AI sector.
"This is a historical achievement and a huge milestone towards the future," said Carme Artigas, Spain's Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence. "Today's agreement effectively addresses a global challenge in a fast-evolving technological environment on a key area for the future of our societies and economies."
