In response to a spate of sexual harassment allegations, the UK Parliament's Treasury Committee is launching an inquiry into sexism and misogyny in financial services. The inquiry aims to identify any barriers faced by women in the sector and assess whether meaningful progress has been made since the Committee's 2018 investigation.
The new inquiry will also examine the role of financial firms, the government, and regulators like the Financial Conduct Authority in combating sexual harassment and misogyny. "As a committee, we'd like to know whether women feel more supported in the financial services industry than at the time of the previous committee's inquiry five years ago," said Harriett Baldwin, a Conservative MP and Chair of the Treasury Committee. “Has the culture in this highly paid sector shifted at all in the last five years?”
