Q: Your research examines the role of different institutions and the strategies these institutions or firms use to ensure compliance. What interested you in this area?
A: I found myself noticing repeated market failures and persistent misconduct. Just think about the last couple of months — problems surfaced for FTX, the Silicon Valley Bank, and the Adani Group in India. Sometimes, these issues happen because of a few rogue employees, which raises questions of why management didn’t spot the problem beforehand or, in cases of systematic failure, why regulators didn’t spot the problem.
