Hundreds of current and former McDonald’s employees in the UK are taking legal action over claims of workplace harassment and bullying, as reported by Business Insider.
According to law firm Leigh Day, over 700 workers from 450 locations, all aged 19 or younger during their employment, have joined the proceedings. This follows a July 2023 BBC investigation which revealed over 100 allegations of sexual assault, harassment, racism, and bullying at McDonald’s. Since then, 160 additional individuals have come forward with similar claims.
McDonald’s UK CEO Alistair Macrow stated in November 2023 that the company had received 407 employee complaints since the initial investigation and confirmed 29 dismissals for sexual harassment in the past year. “Ensuring the 168,000 people that work in McDonald’s restaurants are safe is the most important responsibility for both us and our franchisees,” the company maintains, emphasizing its commitment to safety.
However, fresh claims, including sexual harassment and bullying, persist. Amid these allegations, McDonald’s has announced plans to scale back its diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, fueling further criticism.
